Our first morning at Disney! Doing what we do best, standing in line and freezing. Today started just above freezing with a brisk wind but I'm sure it will get warmer.
As everyone who's been to Disney Parks know, you head for the best rides first before the crowds get big so here we are starting on Radiator Springs Racers. Its a giant version of those toy race tracks we used to play with. Two cars side by side racing around a track controlled by someone else, I assume with hand controllers. Its fast and a lot of fun.
This is what it looks like from the outside. Pretty cool, huh. See the mountains in the background? That's called Ornament Valley and features tail fins from 50s and 60s Cadillacs. If you remember the false wall I showed in the picture of the Alpine Hotel in my last blog, this is the other side. Impressive isn't it.
This part of the park is called Cars Land and features sites and characters from the movie Cars. This is Luigis Flying Tires. These are hovercraft and you steer them by leaning. Kind of a floating bumper car. It was a riot.
Time for a walk to stretch our legs. This part of the park is called Grizzly Peak and features a water ride called Grizzly River Run which is closed for repair. Just as well, it's too darn cold to get soaked.
Paradise Pier has roller coasters and a Ferris wheel. A water show plays a couple times a day and is amazing.
This dusk photo shows how nice Paradise Pier looks. It was built to resemble the old beach parks of bygone years.
Even managed to get Grammie up in the Ferris wheel. If you know how scared of heights she is, this is impressive. I'm not sure if that's a smile or grimace, it never changed for the whole ride.
After that we both needed a break. Notice its noon and we're still bundled up. Never did get warm today.
The beer really helped warm me up.
Some more relaxing rides are in order so we decided to go see The Little Mermaid-Ariel's Undersea Adventure. Never saw the movie but the ride was impressive and a lot of fun.
Next was Monsters Inc. Another fun ride based on the movie. Most of the Disney attractions are based around Disney movies which get the kids excited to see familiar characters.
There was a parade in the evening and most characters from Disneys later movies were there. Not Mickey and Minnie but Tow Mater from Cars was.
As well as It's A Bugs Life
And finding Nemo. I didn't realize how many movies were made by Disney.
After supper we walked around. Things look a lot different after dark. The lights are beautiful.
A night view of downtown Radiator Springs with Ornament Valley in the background. There was an evening water and light show but my pictures were too fuzzy to show so just trust me, it was fantastic. Disneyland consists of this park (Disney California Adventure) and the original Disneyland. Our next Disney day will be to see the original.
